I’m gonna give myself a good talking to, quit moping around like a dog with the fleas on a summer afternoon. There’s just so many days and so many nights so many loves and so many fights and the future comes too soon. After all this time, I still can’t find my peace of mind. I’m gonna give myself a good talking to, stop worrying bout things that tie me up and wear me down. Cause Spring is here and the grass is riz, and I think I know what my problem is I’m headin' out of town. After all this time, I still can’t find my peace of mind. After all this time, I still can’t find my peace of mind.

Out of Mind 03:41
Out of Mind When I’m out of mind I’m out of sight I shed my feathers & I step into the night And things come back to me that I forgot And I wake up to find that nothing’s like it’s not Because it’s all so very fleeting Saw it from the corner of my eye While my heart was barely beating & I looked down, from the sky When I’m out of sight I’m out of mind Still my troubles they are never far behind They try to straighten out my curly thoughts & I wake up to find I’m something that I’m not Because it’s all so very fleeting Saw it from the corner of my eye While my heart was barely beating & I looked down, from the sky When I’m out of time I’m out of mind But something holds me back from swinging on the vine It turns my wilderness to parking lots & I wake up to find that nothing’s like I thought Because it’s all so very fleeting Saw it from the corner of my eye While my heart was barely beating With the ground below receding

Ruby Fizz 03:21
Nobody's got it figured out as far as I can tell. We stumble around and pretend so well. The sun comes up, but we don't know why. Where does the moment go after it goes by? I was driving to the store, for a box of Natty Light. I was feeling pretty cool, but something wasn't right. The light turned red and the light turned green. Sometimes it's hard to tell what the voices mean. Sometimes it's raining cats, sometimes it's raining dogs. At the end of the world it's gonna rain bullfrogs. I've got something to tell you, but I don't know what it is. Bartender please bring me another Ruby Fizz. Some people are so famous, they live in my TV. They talk to Oprah Winfrey and they talk to me. I don't want to read your book, cause it looks too long, but if you've got a little time you can hear my song. Rpt vs 1 & refrain.

Awaken 04:03
Won’t you awaken baby See the colors for the very first time We spend our days just thinking about tomorrow Living in a haze on time we’ve only borrowed Time to wake up Have you ever seen a simple miracle like just being alive I don’t want to get to heavy on you baby Cause love ain’t a burden Chorus: We’re just a point in time We’re just a berry on the vine We’re just a bubble in the wine You, me, we, just fine Open up your soul baby Hear the music for the very first time We spend our years just drifting through the motions Time to set our sails and find another ocean Time to wake up Inst. Have you built a world around yourself So you never see the real thing Have you built yourself a little home That you never want to leave Chorus & inst.

He was the King King of the losers He did his thing They thought he was cool He had a queen He didn’t choose her But everyone in town Thought he was profound And they all hung upon his every word King of the Losers He used to think That he couldn’t win He used to sink When he was trying to swim His little queen Was a bit of a boozer And when the sun went down She would make the rounds And stay out ‘til the night turned into day King of the Losers Bridge He used to stand On top of the hill Check out the land That was his domain Get mad at the queen Cause she was a slut And he would come back down And wander through the town And they all shook his hand & knew his name King of the Losers He threw a feast And everyone came They grilled a beast There was music and games The jesters joked With the carnival cruisers And he looked round that night And everything seemed right And he felt quite content that he should be King of the losers

Got my watercolor spectacles on again. And Marilyn Monroe’s got nothing on my friend. Imperfect stranger drive-thru Elvis, Panavision windshield screen. Teenage werewolf Boris Carloff, Someone help me make you scream. You can be my Sunny Delight, I can be your x-ray man. Brought to you in Stereovision, Technicolor morning glory. I don’t know which movie that we’re living in, but nothing seems as real as when I touch your skin. Go speed racer locomotive, sixty-seven submarine. Headed down below the surface, my vanilla sundae queen. Won’t you be my 3-dimensional girl, I don’t need no promises. Won’t you be my 3-dimensional girl, I don’t need no promises.

Nothing’s lost, nothing’s gained Mother loves you just the same & All the troubles you go through, Will keep you true, keep you true Pick yourself off of the ground Drove your brother into town Copper clouds & winds of steel Seem surreal, oh so real Flesh and blood and bone Earth and fire and stone A stroke of genius from a friend She never stays until the end The crown of feathers that you wear is such a hard load to bear Flesh and blood and bone Earth and fire and stone Instrumental bridge Took a walk out to the fields The only place left you can heal You get so small you disappear With all your love, and all your fears Flesh and blood and bone Earth and fire and stone Flesh and blood and bone Earth and fire and stone Instrumental bridge to end

Hard Times 03:10
Won’t you hold onto me in these hard times I will carry you through the thorns When you can’t find your way through the darkness I will be there to keep you warm I have traveled and wandered and wondered I have not been a stranger to fear On lonely nights I’ve searched for the meaning But the message has never been clear Ch: We can leave the world behind If just for a little while We’ll move closer to the vine If just for a little while And I’ll find the key to your heart and mine and it won’t cost a dime… We’ll be glad that we fell on hard times Can you see the moonlight on these mountains The coyotes hide in these hills You can hear them calling in the distance If we both just lay here very still Chorus They say true love can’t wait for tomorrow So I give you my heart today Just hold onto me through these hard times And together we’ll find our own way Chorus
9.
The Prophet 03:29
Farewell to my good friend, and the years we have seen Was it just yesterday that we met in a dream When you sang to my sorrow, and in return I Built temples of laughter with you in the sky But our slumber has lifted and dissolved into day The hot sun is rising, we must be on our way And where the wind blows me I’ll remember your name And hold your song with me through the wind and the rain If in memory’s twilight we should meet once again If we should find one another in the dream without end May your song run still deeper for the rivers you’ve crossed May our temples stand stronger for the loves we have lost

Moonscape 03:12
I’m sitting on a moonscape, taking in a tranquil sea Listenin’ to the moongulls, squawk away at me & my body’s rising cause there ain’t much gravity Sitting on a moonscape, dreaming about you and me I’m digging my toes around in whatever they’ve got up there Reading the moonpaper about celestial love affairs Ain’t doing much breathing, cause there isn’t any air Sitting on a moonscape, wondering if you still care They’re leaping from skyscrapers down on Wall street today. I’m looking for flypaper down the aisles of Circle K. But if you’ve changed your mind, I might just have to stay, Sitting on a moonscape, keeping life at bay Inst. They’re leaping from skyscrapers down on wall street today. I’m looking for flypaper down the aisles of Circle K. And the earth turns slowly round and sighs as if to say come back later it’s been a hectic day I’m sitting on a moonscape, taking in a tranquil sea Listenin’ to the moongulls, squawk away at me & my body’s rising cause there ain’t much gravity Sitting on a moonscape, dreaming about you and me
11.
Muse 03:16
Would you be amused If I asked you to be my muse You could be my Penelope anytime I’m passing through Would you believe that it’s me? And could I lay you down beneath the olive tree And would you be my muse would you be my muse Could you wait for me In a world of uncertainty And could you love again If the cold winds called my name And if I came for you After all the years you know my hearts still true Would you be my muse Would you be my muse I may twist & turn But I’m gonna find my way back through I’ve seen cities burn but I never lost faith in you Would you wait for me In a world of uncertainty And will you love again When the cold winds call my name And when I come for you After all the years you know my hearts still true Will you be my muse Will you be my muse Will you be my muse Will you be my muse

Cutthroat Porter (free) 04:03
Cutthroat Porter He’s a mean old SOB Cutthroat Porter Stole my gal away from me He’ll step on your feet, and spit in your eye He’s got 29 goons he keeps by his side Called my lady Said what’s this that I hear You’ve been seen with Cutthroat You been nibbling on his ear She just said “I’m sorry, but this is goodbye.” He bought her six pair of shoes of baby elephant hide Called my lawyer Said what about my wife He said don’t mess with Cutthroat Unless you’re tired of your life ’Cause he smoke dynamite, and drink turpentine Nice talking to you here’s a bill for my time
13.
I want to be like Steve McQueen, take me down to the river and toss me in. I'll say it again. I want to be like Steve McQueen, take me down to the river and toss me in. I'll say it again. Inst. I want to be your steam machine, fill me down by the river and toss me in, I'll say it again. I want to be your squeeze machine, pull me down to the river and toss me in, I'll say it again.

Waving 01:22
You weren't waving, from the sea. You were screaming "Come and rescue me, I'm drowning." But everyone just waved and smiled. Somewhat later, from the beach, I saw that you were drifting out of reach. And I was sorry that we didn't know. Sorry that we let you go. Sorry that we didn't know.

about

“Americana goosed with charming pop hooks, ‘Ruby Fizz,’ finds gifted Tampa singer/songwriter Rich Whiteley in top form. His warm vocals glide over memorable melodies. The lyrics smartly meld concrete musings and surreal imagery. Whiteley skillfully plays guitar, piano, banjo and harmonica on the disc. Ace local players like co-producer/multi-instrumentalist Steve Connelly and drummer Dan DeGregory accompany him. A do-it-yourself release made by homegrown talent, “Ruby Fizz” easily ranks with anything on the national Americana charts.” --Wade Tatangelo, St. Petersburg Times music correspondent

Tampa Bay Times Soundcheck, Top 10 local albums of 2009: Rich Whiteley, Ruby Fizz: “Folk, country, rock and pop combine with an achingly sincere vocal that never overdoes it. Listen to this when the world seems crazy. It’ll bring back some perspective.”

“Don’t let those easy-going grooves fool you. “Ruby Fizz” has plenty of punch beneath the surface, from the dark psychedelia of “Flesh Blood and Bone” to the sly twists of “King of the Losers.” Rich Whiteley may be as much an editor as a writer. Words and music both sound honed to the absolute essentials. An excellent effort from one of Tampa’s musical mainstays.” --Curtis Ross, Tampa Tribune Pop Music Critic
